Latest Makeup Empties with Mini Reviews

I am back with another makeup empties post! I never know how popular these are but I personally find it really interesting to see what people think once they’ve finished a product. Finding out whether they would buy it again, or not, is surely one of the most indicative pieces of info to help you decide whether something is worth buying.

First up is a trio of base products.

Let’s start with the Essence Stay All Day 16h Concealer (£2.50). I was hoping this would be an affordable gem but I did not get on with this. In fact, I didn’t even finish it because I found it did nothing, but I did give it to my sister to try to see if she likes it; we all have different preferences so who knows, it might work for her. I used it under my eyes and I personally found it to have very poor coverage! It was quite a liquidy, watery formula and I do tend to prefer concealers that are quite creamy and thick. It was a fail for me.

Next up, the bareMinerals Illuminating Mineral Veil (£21). I bought this to use as an all-over setting powder and I actually quite liked it! However, if I were to buy it again I think I would get the non ‘illuminating’ version. I didn’t find it ridiculously ‘sparkly’ or anything, but it was just a little bit too much for me. However, the formula is great and it helped my makeup to last all day and it didn’t look cakey. I also like the packaging, which has a twist closure to keep the product locked in so it doesn’t go everywhere like many loose powder products are prone to.

Something I was very sad to find in my empties was the eye wateringly expensive Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (£40) in the shade Diffused Light. These are truly gorgeous powders and I used it all over my face as a setting powder, similarly to the bareMinerals one I spoke about above. It ensured I never looked too matte or powdery but it helped my makeup to last. It did give a luminous effect, I won’t go too crazy with hyperbole because it’s not a complete miracle worker, but it does give you a pretty, natural looking glow and doesn’t look too ‘made up’. If I was feeling flush I would buy again but I would probably try a different shade, just because I love trying new stuff! If you saw my recent Space NK Haul you’ll see I bought the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Palette which has a new shade of the Ambient Lighting Powder, so I’m covered for the time being. 🙂

I think I discussed this NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray (£7) in a previous post I did on my NYX Collection, so I’ll keep it fairly brief. I did really like this setting spray. I haven’t tried loads of others so can’t say it’s the best in the whole world but for the price it does pretty much everything I would want it to. The main thing for me is to keep my face looking as fresh as possible and not too powdery which I felt this did. It helped my makeup to all mesh together. I probably would repurchase!

Onto mascaras I’ve finished and I’ll begin with the best – the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (£19. I’m not one to venture frequently into high end mascaras as I don’t think it’s a product you need to spend loads of money on for results. However, I will definitely buy a full size of this in the future! It is a brilliant mascara that makes your lashes so thick and full! The brush is pretty big and it took me a while to get to grips with, but once I learned to apply it and not get it all over my eyelids I fell in love. If you love big lashes then I definitely recommend trying this.

An affordable mascara that unfortunately did not impress me and I would not repurchase was the SEVENTEEN Falsifeye HD Mascara (£6.99). I like big lashes and this didn’t give me them. I feel like the brush just doesn’t pack enough product onto the lashes and the plastic bristles are quite short and insubstantial.

I bought this Kiko Unforgettable Mascara (£7.20) last year when they had a deal on their website. It was okay. I had high hopes for it as the brush looked promising however it didn’t wow me and I wouldn’t repurchase. I think the brush was maybe a little too dense so that it couldn’t quite grab and completely envelope the lashes to make them reach their full potential.

I’m pretty sure I’ve raved about this next product before on my blog. NYX Micro Brow Pencil (£7) is an excellent, fuss-free eye brow pencil. It’s twist up so no need to sharpen (perfect for the lazy among us, *guilty*) and has a brush on the other end to tame your brows. I had the shade Ash Brown which was a pretty perfect match for me and I have already bought another one.

The next product is very similar and equally as good. The Soap & Glory™ Archery™ 2-in-1 Brow Filling Pencil & Brush (£8) is likewise a twist up pencil with a brush on the other end. The application and formula is just as good as NYX’s. The only downside is that there is only two shades so unless one of these suits you, you’d be stuck.

Last up, I’m afraid it’s another Seventeen product that I really thoroughly disliked and didn’t actually finish because I just couldn’t bare to use it. The SEVENTEEN Make Your Mark Soft Eyeliner Pen (£3.99) is just not comfortable to use at all! The tip of the pen is just far too stiff and rigid and scrapes against your eye! Eyes are sensitive things and I don’t want to feel like I’m scratching my eye out, it was genuinely painful at times! Additionally, it was not super black either and I couldn’t bare to press any harder to see if I could get better colour pay-off. I definitely wouldn’t buy this again, but I do actually like Seventeen as a brand so despite having a bad experience with two of their products I’ve talked about in this post I will continue to keep up to date with things they release and try new things.

I hope you enjoyed reading about these products I’ve finished and make sure you sign up to my email subscription or follow me on Bloglovin!

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks | Sandstorm, Soft Spoken, Tea & Cookies

Another post on the items of makeup I own the most of – lipsticks! These are from NYX and are called Liquid Suede. I have three colours in this formula and I love them!

‘Sandstorm’ (which is my favourite) is a browny, pink nude , ‘Soft Spoken’ is a red, brown nude and ‘Tea & Cookies’ is what I would consider a true pink colour!

nyx liquid suede cream lipstick lipstick review sandstorm tea and cookies soft spokennyx liquid suede cream lipstick lipstick review sandstorm tea and cookies soft spoken swatches swatch (2)

NYX describe them as a cream lipstick that glides on like silk and sets to a velvety matte finish. I agree with all of this. The formula is creamy and smooth and the applicator is great and makes it easy to apply. Pigmentation is good and I generally find one layer is perfectly adequate. It’s quite a thick formula so I find it takes a while to set, longer than most other liquid lipsticks I’ve tried, however because it remains so comfortable on the lips I really don’t mind that it takes longer to dry down. Once dry, I think velvet matte is an accurate description of the finish. It’s definitely not completely matte and retains a little bit of sheen. I think calling these liquid suedes was spot on and I absolutely love the finish it gives.

Due to this not-super-matte finish I find they wear very nicely, even on their own with no lip liner underneath. Once dry I find they can last a good few hours comfortably on your lips. It can sometimes be hard to know when they are completely dry so I have had a few transfer issues on occasion but this doesn’t really bother me!

The shade range is decent but I personally love nude colours so I’d love if they expanded the range with more nudes as I love the formula so much. I have seen on their website that they’ve launched a few new shades, one of which called ‘Brooklyn Thorn’ looks appealing to me so I might have to snap that up if it’s available in the UK.

These sell for £6.50 each and are available from Boots, Feel Unique and ASOS. I think they are well worth the money and they are definitely one of my favourite liquid lipstick formulas that I’ve ever tried.

Makeup of the Evening – FOTD

This is a bit of a rushed post as I had nothing scheduled or planned for today, but I’d been doing so well so far managing to post every day in October I didn’t want to let a day slip by with no post.

So I thought seeing as I’m going out tonight I’d share what makeup I’m planning on wearing. It could change but this is what I’m planning on trying and hopefully it’ll look good! My partying and drinking every Saturday is behind me but tonight I am going for a meal with my two best girl-friends to celebrate their birthdays (which are a week apart). We’re going for an Indian so I’m looking forward to that!

Here’s what I’m planning on chucking on my face…

nars sheer glow foundation mont blank collection lasting perfection concealer fair nyx banana hd powder nars steven klein palette hourglass ambient lighting powder diffused lightanastasia beverly hills illuminator so hollywood nars steven klein face palette collection lasting perfection concealer fairnars sheer glow mont blanc becca backlight priming filter hourglass ambient lighting powder diffused light nyx hd banana too faced primed and poreless primernyx brow pomade make up geek creme brulee eyeshadow the balm mad lash by terry ombre blackstar misty rock soap glory eye liner supercat lily lolo urban decay primer potionnars semi matte lipstick scarlett empressnars semi matte lipstick scarlett empress swatch

For my face I’m going to use Becca Backlight Priming Filter (£32) all over face and then some Too Faced Primed and Poreless Primer (£24) on my nose and apples of my cheeks, as this is where my pores are largest and most noticeable. For foundation I’m going with Nars Sheer Glow (£31) which I have in the shade ‘Mont Blanc’. My favourite concealer is still Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer (£4.19) in the shade ‘Fair’ so I’m going to use that under my eyes and on any redness that’s still peaking through. I’ll then set my under eye area with the NYX HD Finishing Powder (£8) in the shade ‘Banana’ which is brightening. I’ll then set the rest of my face with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (£40) which I have in the shade ‘Diffused Light’ (this is virtually empty now, can’t bring myself to repurchase it with that insane price tag)!

To add some colour and life back to my skin I’ll use the Nars One Shocking Moment Cheek Studio Palette (this was a limited edition palette). It has the  Laguna (£28) bronzer and a great shade for contour. My favourite blush is the palest pink one so I’ll probably go for that one. For highlight I think I might go with this one called ‘So Hollywood’ from Anastasia Beverly Hills. This too was unfortunately limited edition and I can’t find it anywhere linked online, sorry!

For eyes I’ll go in with the Urban Decay Primer Potion (£16) and curl my lashes with these cute eyelash curlers from Primark. To line my upper and lower water line I use the Lily Lolo Eyeliner Pencil (£6.99) in black. I don’t like faffing around with eye shadow so I think I might go for my fanciest eye shadow stick which is By Terry Ombre Blackstar (£29) in ‘Misty Rock’. I’ll then probably just define my crease with Makeup Geek Eyeshadow (£5.50) in ‘Creme Brulee’ which I always do as it looks so pretty and defines the eyes beautifully. For mascara I am absolutely loving theBalm Mad Lash Mascara (£15) which I wrote a whole post about which you can read here if you would like! I might add some falsies but we’ll see how I am for time! Got so much to do… paint nails, straighten hair, do makeup, choose outfit! And I can never be without some eyeliner, so I’ll just line my upper lash line with some Soap and Glory Supercat (£6).

For eyebrows I absolutely love NYX Brow Pomade (£5.50) which I use in ‘Brunette’. This stuff is awesome and can still look really natural or you can go bolder. Great stuff.

I’m still very unsure on which lip colour to rock, but I’ve yet to don a dark, berry lip shade this Autumn (how criminal of me) so I am considering going for the Nars Semi-Matte Lipstick (£20) in ‘Scarlett Empress’. But, let’s be honest, no lipstick is going to last the course of me eating an Indian meal anyway so a top up will be essential!

So that’s my current thinking for tonight’s makeup… What do you think? I hope you enjoy your Saturday night whatever you’re doing.

Highlighter Collection

Compared to many I’ve seen on YouTube and blogs I don’t have as many highlighters as some, but to me, I feel I have more than enough lol! It’d have to be a really unusual colour or exceptional formula for me to be able to justify getting another one… That doesn’t mean I won’t be buying a new highlighter in the near future as I am weak but what I’m trying to say is you really don’t need that many so maybe I can help you to decide whether any of these ones I own would be up your street! Wanting more is a whole other ball game though lol, they are so pretty to look at <3

highlighter collection anastasia beverly hills illuminator becca shimmering skin perfector pressed champagne pop moonstone poured the balm mary lou manizer sleek (3)
In order listed below Left to Right

NYX Illuminator in Ritualistic – £8.50

I got this one as I really wanted a pale, almost white highlighter. I liked the look of Pearl by Becca but I couldn’t bring myself to splash out the £32 at the time so when I saw this I impulse bought it on the spot! It’s a nice colour that I would say is a white gold although it is not the most pigmented and takes a bit of building up (I use a fan brush to apply highlighter). It’s not the smoothest of formulas and is slightly chalky, but this is compared to formulas like Becca’s which are a lot more expensive. If you don’t have a lot of money to spend on a highlighter this would not be a bad choice! It catches the light, can be built up or worn more subtly, it does all you need.

theBalm Mary Lou Manizer Luminizer – £17.50

This purchase was completely induced by YouTube and blogs as it is so popular and raved about! I can see why as it’s a beautiful colour and can give a rather intense sheen to your skin! This one is more pigmented than the NYX and you don’t need to apply much to get the highlighted effect. A very pretty highlight which almost gives a  ‘wet’ look. The Balm do the best packaging too.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured in Moonstone – £30

I bought this in the summer thinking I would get loads of use out of it but the truth is I’ve barely touched it. I think my preference at the moment is for powder highlights as they pack much more of a punch. That being said I do love how natural this can look, it’s like a glossy sheen, but it’s one of those things where I get carried away and I know I can be so much more glowy so I reach for a powder highlight and this one is left redundant. If I ever fall out of love with the more obvious highlight look then this is really pretty, but until then I think it’ll just be sitting in a drawer… 🙁

Anastasia Beverly Hills Illuminator in So Hollywood – £28

This was the first expensive highlight I ever bought and at the time I couldn’t believe I’d spent £28 on one. Because of this, I had super high expectations and these were unfortunately not met. I think a lot of this was to do with first impressions and packaging; the packaging is virtually the same as the NYX Illuminator packaging just with the different branding so it just felt really cheap for the £28 I’d spent on it. The product itself now I’ve gotten over the splurge (I hadn’t bought that much high-end makeup before at the time so I was adjusting LOL) is actually really pretty. It’s a sheeny, pale gold that also provides that ‘wet’ look. I think this was the first illuminator ABH brought out and it is almost impossible to find this shade anywhere online now. However, ABH seems to be bringing out hundreds of highlighting palettes at the moment so you’re bound to find one you like. Packaging: cheap, product: good.

Sleek MakeUp Face Contour Kit in Light – £6.99

I’ll be honest and say I’ve not used this highlight from this palette much as I get distracted by all the prettily packaged separate ones I have. However, upon swatching I remembered how nice it actually is. In colour it’s probably most similar to the Mary Lou Manizer which means it’s a gorgeous colour for highlighting. It is however, more glittery which some people really don’t like but it’s nothing that bothers me too much. For travelling or if you’re on a budget, this 2 in 1 is a good buy. The contour powder is great btw.

Becca Jaclyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Champagne Pop – £32

This colour is gorgeous and who doesn’t love Jaclyn Hill – she’s infectious! Becca’s pressed formula is smooth and very pigmented and I love it. This is probably my favourite highlighter that I own. I think that’s for a number of reasons. Firstly is that it was so hyped up and coveted that by the time I got my hands on it I’d already given it such a great value I had to love it, secondly everything about using it just feels good and luxurious, from the packaging to the way it applies to just staring at it in the pan. And thirdly, it’s Jaclyn isn’t it! When someone you love loves something, you love it too ya know, especially when it looks like Champagne Pop. 😉

So there are my highlighters! What’s your favourite highlighter?

Current 5 Favourite Everyday Lipsticks

Lipstick is one of my favourite things. It’s got to a point where I have so many that I don’t wear so I’m going to try to make a conscious effort to rotate what I’m wearing so they all get some love. However, at the moment there are certain ones I just can’t help myself but wear all the frickin time! So maybe the rotation thing won’t be happening any time soon…

Here is the current squad…

gerard cosmetics buttercup lipstick nyx liquid suede sandstorm dose of colors bare with me urban decay uptight backtalk comfort mattegerard cosmetics buttercup lipstick nyx liquid suede sandstorm dose of colors bare with me urban decay uptight backtalk comfort matte swatch

Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick in Buttercup £10.50

This is a really easy to wear nude pink. It’s one of those lipsticks you can chuck on without having to think about it as it looks great and will go with most makeup looks. The formula is buttery and I’d say the finish is satin, it’s not glossy but there’s definitely shine.

Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks in Uptight and Backtalk £15 each

I’ve previously done a whole post dedicated to these lipstick when I first got them. You can read that here. Since writing that I have only grown to like them more. The comfort matte formula is so creamy and smoothing and one of the nicest I’ve ever tried. I’ve also grown more fond of the packaging which I initially didn’t really like lol.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Sandstorm £6.50

This is probably my most worn lipstick out of all of them the past couple of months! It’s a real struggle to not wear this every day! I just love the colour and the formula of these is fantastic. It definitely leans towards being a cool brown/beige which I love because of the 90s vibes, however I’d still class it as a nude because it has pinkish tones. It’s just a gorgeous colour that allows me to wear brown on my lips but in a way I am very comfortable with. Liquid suedes also last well on the lips providing you allow them to dry down fully, which does take a while.

Dose of Colors Matte Lipstick in Bare with Me £14.50

I’d call this colour a peachy, nude pink. The formula of these is also brilliant and really long-lasting. They look more matte on the lips than the NYX Liquid Suedes but this means they can make your lips look dry and enhance all the lines and cracks! However despite this they manage to actually not feel drying or uncomfortable! Bare with Me is a really pretty colour and I feel I neglected it at first because I love the other shade ‘Truffle’ so much, but I am making up for it now. 🙂

NYX Collection, Swatches & Quick Reviews

Since NYX has become more readily available in the UK I seem to have amassed quite a collection. I think they offer great products at an affordable price, as well as being cruelty-free unlike so many other affordable high street brands.

The below picture shows most of the products but I discovered a few more I’d forgotten after taking it lol! I didn’t realise how much NYX stuff I had oops. xD

nyx collection and reviews

I’m going to start with Lip Products as they are probably my favourites!

nyx soft matte lip cream liquid suede matte lipstick lip linernyx lip swatches 2

nyx soft matte lip cream in monte carlonyx soft matte lip cream stockholm (3)

These two are in the Soft Matte Lip Cream Formula. This was the first lip formula I tried from NYX and it’s pretty good. They’re a light, fluffy, velvety texture which means they don’t dry to what I would consider a fully matte finish, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. They retain a light sheen and don’t dry out the lips. Longevity is not their strong point; they will wear off much like a normal lipstick and because of the way they dry they wear off evenly and are less likely to leave any horrible flaky patches. They surprised me with the intensity of pigmentation however and they have a lovely colour range. I feel they’re a good product for beginners or people that just want easy application and minimal upkeep.

Would I recommend? Yes

nyx liquid suede lip cream tea and cookiesnyx liquid suede soft spoken

These are in the Liquid Suede formula and I really love these! Unlike some other formulas you definitely don’t need a lip liner underneath these as the formula is so lovely and creamy that it doesn’t cling to any dry patches. I think this is my favourite formula for comfort and the finished look; however it does seem to take ages to dry down and because of this it is open to smudging. I wish Liquid Suedes came in the colour range of the Lip Lingeries because I just love my nude colours Soft Matte Lip Creams, I wouldn’t say they dry completely matte but I’m discovering I prefer this to extremely matte products which can look so harsh and dry.

Would I recommend? Yes

nyx lip lingerie liquid lipstick lace detail

This is from the Lip Lingerie range which has the most amazing shades that are right up my street. In the image I am just wearing the product without lip liner; I definitely think this product fairs better when layered on top of balm and lip liner as it looks and feels very dry otherwise! Alone this product has a much more matte appearance than the Soft Matte Lip Creams and Liquid Suedes which is probably why I feel the need to layer it over liner to escape that flaky, dry finish.

Would I recommend? Yes, for the beautiful shade range and as long as you’re willing to take the time to layer liner underneath

nyx matte lipstick natural (2)nyx matte lipstick euro trash

Next are these Matte Lipsticks in Natural and Euro Trash. It confuses me slightly how on earth ‘Natural’ is in any way, shape or form a natural lip colour; I expected it to be a nude colour but it most definitely leans towards being purple! Euro Trash is a gorgeous colour and the closest dupe I’ve found so far to my beloved MAC Velvet Teddy. However, it falls short on the formula compared to MAC’s beautiful creamy consistency. That’s not to say I dislike these lipsticks though; they have good colour, easy to apply and have a pretty, non-drying finish. I am not a fan of the packaging, I’ve got a feeling I’ll be likely to hit the top of the bullet on the lid as it’s just so flimsy and twisty somehow! Definitely cheap packaging but they’re hardly an expensive option so we can’t be too fussy 😉

Would I recommend? Yes, they’re worth a try

nyx sugar glass lip liner

Here we have one of the Slide on Lip Pencil Liners. I really love these! They are so smooth and creamy so you can fill your lips in with relative ease. I don’t know if I would personally wear it on its own but you definitely could. I think the Lip Lingerie I have would work well over the top of this. Something I worry about with pencils is how well they will sharpen but this one sharpened well, no problems!

Would I recommend? Yes

nyx retractable lip liner in nude

Now onto not such a great lip liner; the Retractable Lip Liner… I love retractable products. They work well for my laziness when it comes to sharpening so I thought I’d grab one of these as well as a Slide on Lip Liner (above) to compare. The Slide on Lip Liner wins hands down. This retractable one is just annoying. It’s a lovely formula, similarly creamy and a nice colour. However it’s SO creamy that it just does not work well as a retractable product. I was getting really annoyed using this as it would just break off using the necessary pressure to apply it hence it’s been very wasteful. Now I know this I will try to be careful not to twist too much out at a time but you’d have to twist it up multiple times to do your whole lips because as it’s so creamy it goes down super quickly. It’s just not worth it tbh and you’re better off buying the sharpenable slide on pencil; it’ll be less hassle and last longer!

Would I recommend? No

nyx hot singles eye shadow zen heat illuminator ritualistic 4nyx hot singles eye shadow zen heat nyx illuminator ritualistic

So let’s move onto some powder products. Here we have some Hot Singles Eye Shadows and an Illuminator. It’s hard for me to say much about these at the moment as I haven’t really played around much with them so it’d be unfair for me to make any bold statements. My feelings so far however are positive; the eyeshadows have good pigment and seem to blend well. The illuminator is not the smoothest nor the most pigmented but it is a beautiful white gold which I’m hoping will be flattering on my quite fair skin.

Would I recommend? I’ve not used them enough to say either way at the moment

nyx tinted brow pomade brunette micro brow pencil ash brownnyx tinted brow pomade tame and frame micro brow pencil brunette ash brown

Here we have some brow products; the Tame and Frame Tinted Brow Pomade and the NYX Micro Brow Pencil! I’m not going to spend too much time talking about these as the bottom line is I love them both! I know Anastasia Beverley Hills seems to be the holy grail of brow products for many but I honestly have no interest in trying those products at more than double the price of these ones when I love these NYX ones so much. They just do the job. The colour ranges are great, I think most people could find a shade to suit them. The pencil is great, I love to have a brush on one end. And the tinted brow pomade I probably prefer even more as I love the shape you can create with it. Just FYI, I use the Zoeva 317 Wing Liner Brush with the pomade to do my brows and it is PERFECT.

Would I recommend? Yes absolutely!

nyx hd concealer light fair wonder pencil fair

Next we have some complexion products. Concealers are one of my favourite things to try as we’re all always searching for products to give us that flawless base. These HD Concealer Wands however for me are just not good enough. I firstly bought it in the shade Light which is a completely off shade! It is not by any means Light, it’s so orange and definitely not flattering in my under eye! So I recently picked up Fair which is a much better shade for me, the difference in the two is stark considering Light is the next shade up from Fair! Anyway, even with this better shade I do not like this formula at all, unfortunately. I will still use it up of course as I hate to feel I’ve wasted my money but it’s really not good enough. The coverage is not high enough for my under-eyes and it dries in a horrible way that looks powdery and crepey which I actually feel ages me! It’s a thin, watery consistency compared to concealers I prefer (I tend to prefer creamy formulas) like the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer and the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. I will not repurchase these which is a shame as I had high hopes!

As for the Wonder Pencil, also pictured, I don’t have much to report. I bought it to use as an eye-liner in my water line but I haven’t used it much even for that. When it arrived I saw it had written on it many other purposes so it’s actually a very multiple use product! It suggests you could use it as a concealer, an eye brightener and a reverse lip liner. I really need to give it a go as some of these options as it could be great. I like the sound of using it as a reverse lip liner and it might be great for spot concealing! It’s definitely not one for around the eyes though (other than water line) as it would tug the skin.

Would I recommend (HD Concealer)? No

Would I recommend (Wonder Pencil)? Hmm it’s okay! Not much to say so far

nyx pore filler primer

I have huge pores (in my opinion lol, they’re probably quite normal xD) on my nose and cheeks so anything that claims to get rid of them I am interested in! So in walked Pore Filler to my life. Unfortunately, I’m not a big fan and I do not find myself reaching for this very often despite having it a while. It is very very siliconey and I prefer a more creamy primer. As well as this I didn’t find that it did anything miraculous to hide my pores either; its slippery nature means your base goes on smoothly yes, but I could still see my pores through it hence I think I could get the same effect using primers I prefer the feel of which are creamier. It’s quite mattifying which as someone with normal/dry skin I didn’t really like, it just made my skin look so flat, but maybe an oilier complexion would get on better with it. But as far as the name suggests, I was not impressed.

Would I recommend? No

nyx dewy finish makeup setting spray

Right, the last product I have to share is a Setting Spray! I have it in the Dewy Finish but it also comes in a Matte Finish; I’m not sure how much difference there is between the two. I use a setting spray mainly because I like the way it makes my makeup look afterwards; it tends to soften any cakiness and makes the finish look less powdery by meshing everything together with your skin. So if you’re interested in setting spray for the purposes of making your makeup last longer I can’t really offer an opinion. I’m lucky that my makeup lasts well when I do my normal base routine using primer, foundation, concealer where necessary and then I set my entire face with powder every time without fail. Powder for me really is the key to longevity. So who knows if this product helps my makeup last longer! But I do know I like using it and it’s a lot more affordable than other options available. I do want to try other brands though just to see if there’s any difference or if it is just a fancy bottle of water!

Would I recommend? Yes, I’d recommend just to try a setting spray in general and see if you like what it does for the finish of your makeup

And there we have it, my collection of NYX Products! I haven’t really got my eye on any other things from NYX so in theory my collection shouldn’t be growing anytime soon but ya know, these things just happen sometimes so never say never 😀

Best wishes, Nicole xxxx

Black Friday Feelunique and Amazon Beauty Bits

emma hardie moringa cleansing balm bare minerals mineral veil nyx micro brow pencil mary lou manizer the soft matte lip cream wonder concealer

I definitely treated myself, probably a bit too much, during the Black Friday weekend sales! I got beauty bits from feelunique.com and beautybay.com (which haven’t arrived yet sadly), as well as one beauty thing from Amazon. Every thing I bought here is from cruelty free brands in line with my aim to go cruelty free.

Everything I got from feelunique was from a brand I’d never tried before; how exciting!

bareMinerals® Illuminating Mineral Veil® £21

I got this to use as a setting powder on top of foundation as my current one is running out. I’m excited to try it, however I am slightly worried it’s a bit sparkly, but hopefully that will translate as a glow on the skin.

Emma Hardie Merrily Moringa Gift Set £10

This cleanser is so raved about and a favourite of many like Zoella and Caroline Hirons, so naturally I really wanted to try it. Cleansers are one of my favourite new things to try for some reason! I definitely didn’t want to splash out on a full size so this 15ml pot was perfect to give it a try. I’ve used it once already and it’s lovely, not sure I would ever pay the full price for this or any cleanser, but I sure am going to enjoy using it. It’s a perfect size for travelling in luxury.

(Edit: Upon further use, I frickin love this stuff! Why’s it have to be so expensive 🙁 It’s beautiful).

NYX Wonder Pencil in Light £4

While I was trying to find excuses to buy things, I thought how I don’t have a nude coloured eye liner to line my waterline! Shocking. So I got this, with the idea of it brightening my eyes and neutralising any redness. It’s good.

theBalm Mary Lou Manizer Luminizer £17.50

Black Friday was the PERFECT excuse for me to buy the much hyped about Mary Lou-manizer. I haven’t used it yet but it’s beautiful; I love the packaging. theBalm are such a cool brand and I am sure I’ll enjoy using this.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo £5.50

I think I am going to love this! I haven’t used it yet but if I like it I can see myself buying so many colours. I’m such a matte lip girl, I really don’t like lipgloss. I love all lipsticks, but gloss just doesn’t excite me. This colour was not my first choice, I naturally gravitated towards the nudes but all my faves were sold out so I thought I’d just go for it and go bold! I’ll report back.

NYX Concealer Wand in Light £5.50

I think I should’ve gone for the shade Porcelain instead as this one seems too dark and orange for me! However I’m always open to trying new affordable cruelty free concealers so we’ll see how we go. I tried it yesterday and initially impressions were not the best, however I think that’s a lot to do with the colour. Coverage was medium.

NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Chocolate £7

I wanted to get the brow pomade but unfortunately it was out of stock. So I thought I’d get this one to compare with Soap and Glory’s Archery pencil as they look very similar! I go through brow pencils fairly quickly so I don’t mind having a few in my stash as back up. I usually like to finish things before buying something new. So far so good, it’s so similar to Archery!

Real Techniques Setting Brush

Amazon have some great deals on Real Techniques at the moment! I wanted to get this one as a dedicated highlighter brush as I didn’t have one; I was just using an eyeshadow one. It’s the perfect shape for highlighting them cheekbones!

There’ll possibly be a few other Black Friday posts, like the beautybay.com order which has yet to arrive. Hopefully I’ll be able to do some outfit posts soon, clothes are as much if not more of a passion for me than beauty, but showing them is so much more difficult 🙁 I’ll try.

Best wishes,

Nicole
