Makeup of the Evening – FOTD

This is a bit of a rushed post as I had nothing scheduled or planned for today, but I’d been doing so well so far managing to post every day in October I didn’t want to let a day slip by with no post.

So I thought seeing as I’m going out tonight I’d share what makeup I’m planning on wearing. It could change but this is what I’m planning on trying and hopefully it’ll look good! My partying and drinking every Saturday is behind me but tonight I am going for a meal with my two best girl-friends to celebrate their birthdays (which are a week apart). We’re going for an Indian so I’m looking forward to that!

Here’s what I’m planning on chucking on my face…

nars sheer glow foundation mont blank collection lasting perfection concealer fair nyx banana hd powder nars steven klein palette hourglass ambient lighting powder diffused lightanastasia beverly hills illuminator so hollywood nars steven klein face palette collection lasting perfection concealer fairnars sheer glow mont blanc becca backlight priming filter hourglass ambient lighting powder diffused light nyx hd banana too faced primed and poreless primernyx brow pomade make up geek creme brulee eyeshadow the balm mad lash by terry ombre blackstar misty rock soap glory eye liner supercat lily lolo urban decay primer potionnars semi matte lipstick scarlett empressnars semi matte lipstick scarlett empress swatch

For my face I’m going to use Becca Backlight Priming Filter (£32) all over face and then some Too Faced Primed and Poreless Primer (£24) on my nose and apples of my cheeks, as this is where my pores are largest and most noticeable. For foundation I’m going with Nars Sheer Glow (£31) which I have in the shade ‘Mont Blanc’. My favourite concealer is still Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer (£4.19) in the shade ‘Fair’ so I’m going to use that under my eyes and on any redness that’s still peaking through. I’ll then set my under eye area with the NYX HD Finishing Powder (£8) in the shade ‘Banana’ which is brightening. I’ll then set the rest of my face with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (£40) which I have in the shade ‘Diffused Light’ (this is virtually empty now, can’t bring myself to repurchase it with that insane price tag)!

To add some colour and life back to my skin I’ll use the Nars One Shocking Moment Cheek Studio Palette (this was a limited edition palette). It has the  Laguna (£28) bronzer and a great shade for contour. My favourite blush is the palest pink one so I’ll probably go for that one. For highlight I think I might go with this one called ‘So Hollywood’ from Anastasia Beverly Hills. This too was unfortunately limited edition and I can’t find it anywhere linked online, sorry!

For eyes I’ll go in with the Urban Decay Primer Potion (£16) and curl my lashes with these cute eyelash curlers from Primark. To line my upper and lower water line I use the Lily Lolo Eyeliner Pencil (£6.99) in black. I don’t like faffing around with eye shadow so I think I might go for my fanciest eye shadow stick which is By Terry Ombre Blackstar (£29) in ‘Misty Rock’. I’ll then probably just define my crease with Makeup Geek Eyeshadow (£5.50) in ‘Creme Brulee’ which I always do as it looks so pretty and defines the eyes beautifully. For mascara I am absolutely loving theBalm Mad Lash Mascara (£15) which I wrote a whole post about which you can read here if you would like! I might add some falsies but we’ll see how I am for time! Got so much to do… paint nails, straighten hair, do makeup, choose outfit! And I can never be without some eyeliner, so I’ll just line my upper lash line with some Soap and Glory Supercat (£6).

For eyebrows I absolutely love NYX Brow Pomade (£5.50) which I use in ‘Brunette’. This stuff is awesome and can still look really natural or you can go bolder. Great stuff.

I’m still very unsure on which lip colour to rock, but I’ve yet to don a dark, berry lip shade this Autumn (how criminal of me) so I am considering going for the Nars Semi-Matte Lipstick (£20) in ‘Scarlett Empress’. But, let’s be honest, no lipstick is going to last the course of me eating an Indian meal anyway so a top up will be essential!

So that’s my current thinking for tonight’s makeup… What do you think? I hope you enjoy your Saturday night whatever you’re doing.

Nars Audacious Lipsticks | Anna & Barbara

I love lipsticks! And some of the nicest (and most expensive, eek) I’ve tried are these Nars Audacious Lipsticks. They definitely ooze luxury with their magnetic, sleek, black packaging, high impact pigmentation and velvety soft satin feel. I also love that they are named after women’s names! How cool is that?! I wish there was a ‘Nicole’ but sadly not; although I was able to buy my best friend Natalie her namesake lipstick from the collection which was so cute.

Whilst they don’t possess an impressive lasting power they are just so beautiful to wear and apply, with a pretty, slightly glossy finish, that I don’t really mind. I think I’ve got used to being slightly spoilt by matte liquid lipsticks in regards to longevity and really it’s unfair to compare them as they are entirely different formulas and products. What you’re getting with these is a high pigment, luxurious and comfortable satin lipstick.

Anyway, I’ll get on to showing you the colours! If you’re even considering splashing out this much on a lipstick you’ll want to know exactly what to expect from the colours and whether they’ll suit you. I currently have two from the collection: ‘Anna’ and ‘Barbara’.

Barbara is an ultra wearable browny/pinky nude colour meanwhile Anna is definitely a more bold choice being a purple/mauve shade. I find Anna difficult to wear if I’m honest but it’s such a beautiful colour. I’ve just not found the perfect way to pull it off yet. Whereas Barbara I could easily wear every day… but I won’t because it’s far too precious I don’t want it to get used up quickly!

Have you got any Audacious lipsticks? Which is your favourite colour?

Naughty Space NK Buys | Nars, Diptyque, By Terry

Not too long ago Space NK did their thing they do every so often and offered £15 off a £60 spend. Whilst doing that they also bump up their free delivery threshold to £80 from £60. Naughty Space NK! I didn’t want to spend £80 so had to pay £5 delivery so I basically got a £10 discount, but I’m happy with my buys so whatever. I’d only ever bought something from Space NK once before so it’s hardly a frequent addiction. Unlike ASOS which I should probably go to some kind of rehab for. :/

Here’s what I picked up!

Diptyque Baies Scented Candle

This was a bit of a risky purchase as I’d never actually smelt it before and when you’re spending a ridiculous £20 on a small candle you’re going to want to like the smell. However, as it’s so popular and beloved I thought it’s gotta be nice right?! I was initially a bit disappointed, it’s not what I would usually go for scent-wise BUT since it’s been sitting in my room above my bed I have grown to love it. I get a waft of it every now and then and it’s delightful

Nars Audacious Lipstick in ‘Anna’

I’ve loved everything Nars I’ve ever tried so I was desperate to try one of their Audacious lipsticks – and just look at that pigment! Wow. This colour is gorgeous but not what I’d usually go for, it’s very purpley, a bit out of my comfort zone and one I’d be more likely to wear on an evening out. In future I’d love to pick up a day-time nude shade like maybe Barbara or Anita. Any recommendations for the best nude from the range? Because the formula is beautiful.

By Terry Ombre Blackstar in ‘Misty Rock’

This was a painfully expensive eye shadow stick but they just looked so beautiful in all the blog posts/YouTube videos I’d seen them in! And it didn’t disappoint. Granted there may be cheaper dupes around but there’s no doubting this is a gorgeous product. So pigmented, creamy, blendable, long-wearing… And a quick, easy way to wear eye shadow – just swipe and blend. Misty Rock is a real mixture of hues, I’d say it’s mainly purple but in some lights it looks more brown or even grey. It’s a gorgeous colour anyway!

Thanks for reading!

Beauty Splurges

After Christmas and my birthday on boxing day, I was feeling pretty flush after generous gifts from family, soooo I thought after that it’d be as good a time as any to purchase some very expensive makeup I’d been wanting to try for ages! I bought these about 2 months ago so I’ve used them numerous times up to now.

Nars One Shocking Moment Cheek Studio Palette

It’s not hard to understand why this palette was so tempting. It LOOKS gorgeous and I really wanted it. I hadn’t tried any Nars powder products so it was actually a good value way to try lots of different products. I have no regrets buying it as I love using all the pans in there; my most used is probably the palest pink blush as it’s just so pretty! The contour and bronzer are good shades for me and the matte highlight makes for a good setting powder. In theory, they’re probably not anything life changing, but it’s an amazing collection to have all in one gorgeous palette.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light

This was very much a blogger induced purchase. The Hourglass powders are much hyped and raved about for giving a beautiful luminosity and pore-refined, airbrushed finish, along with beautiful packaging; I just couldn’t wait to try one. I went for Diffused Light as I thought the yellowy tone may help with redness and flatter my skintone. It is a really nice product, not super pigmented (I do a lil swatch here), with a silky, finely milled formula and definitely delivers in terms of glow! I use it mostly all over as a setting powder however sometimes I feel that gives just too much glow so I only use it in certain areas. My pores were unaffected; they weren’t blurred but neither were they emphasised. I don’t regret buying it, however now I’ve tried it, I don’t think for £38 it’s one I’ll replace when it’s finished. It will however last me absolutely ages! 🙂

NIOD Photography Fluid

This purchase came about after seeing Laura from buynow/bloglater post about it on Instagram I think it was, describing it as an “Instagram filter for your face”… She’s since written a full post on it here which, since having the product myself, I completely concur with! I was happy with the price:hype ratio; £20 was easily parted with for what sounded to me like a great product. Base products (along with lipsticks) are my weakness. It’s a sheeny yellowy liquid (kind of like a liquid Hourglass Diffused Light!) that comes in a bottle with a pipette. The packaging is not fantastic, I just wipe it on my face from the stick rather than squeezing it. I use it all over my face as a primer before foundation, and it really does have a pretty effect! It’s a luminous glow that evens out dullness and redness in my face, and helps slightly to hide my humongous cheek pores! If you want a glowy primer to even out your skintone then this is definitely worth a shot.

Love, Nicole

 Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

I finally bit the bullet and ordered this foundation online as it seems to be everyone’s favourite foundation. I got the shade Mont Blanc and it’s probably the best match I’ve ever had with a foundation which is partly why I love it so much. It’s a fairly runny consistency with a medium coverage; it’s not enough to completely hide some of the marks on my cheeks but if I’m that bothered I can just add concealer, otherwise what’s wrong with showing a bit of imperfection anyway. It’s probably only me that notices it! I would rather it came with a pump, I may have to buy one separately to add to it, but overall I completely agree with people’s positive reviews of this foundation. If you buy it online at various sites you can often get a 10-20% discount which makes it less of a splurge.

Alpha H Liquid Gold

Another splurge item, I hate that I like this so much as it’s fairly pricey. However I do credit it, along with other chemical exfoliating products, with clearing up my skin. It’s lasted a fair amount of time, I got it mid August and it’ll probably last me until the end of the year if I use it a couple of times a week. Initially I was using this every other evening after cleansing and it worked its magic. Results were not immediate but give it a chance and it really does improve the texture of your skin. I think once I’ve finished it I’ll see how my skin reacts, if it seems to miss it and go back to being spotty and bumpy then of course I will repurchase. I still use Nip+Fab glycolic pads everyday so they should hopefully help maintain my skin without needing to repurchase. Its one I know I can come back to in future though! I love it.

No7 Beautiful Skin Melting Gel Cleanser

I only recently got this cleanser as I had a £5 off No7 skincare and wanted to spend it. But oh my gosh I love it! It’s so cool, it comes out as a gel which you rub all over your skin, then it transforms into more of an oil which you can then wash off. I end up massaging it over my face for ages as it feels so great and luxurious! The formula definitely feels and smells of luxury, well worth the £4.50 it cost with the voucher. No7 is always overlooked but they have some fantastic products and this is one of them. I use it as a second/morning cleanse after removing the majority of makeup with micellar water.

Batiste Texture Me Texturising Spray

I’d never used a texturising spray before this, which was odd really as my hair is always so flat and lacking body. I used to just use dry shampoo on my hair the day after washing it when its all fluffy and too clean, but this is a much better substitute for that as it seems lighter. I just spray this all over my hair when its a bit flat and give it a rub to give it some shape. It’s nothing miraculous but I feel it does make a difference and I like having it there if I’m having a bad hair day. It smells great too!

ASOS Denim Patchwork A-Line Mini Skirt – £28

The first of my fashion favourites lately, I love this skirt! I literally wore it  4 days this week, anytime I needed to leave the house I wanted to wear this, which doesn’t often happen. It was good though as I usually don’t have a clue what I want to wear each day and I take so much time to decide, before just throwing on jeans and a striped tee. This with black tights and any grey or white tee/cropped jumper with ankle boots, chuck on a coat and scarf and it’s a winter go-to.

River Island Beige Stripe Print Scarf – £18

This scarf is a stunner, if that’s not a weird thing to call a scarf… I ordered it when River Island had 25% off, initially as a Christmas gift for my mum, however when it arrived I tried it on and I’m sorry but there was no way my mum was getting it after that. The River Island website shows it much better, it has lots of different patterns to it and I love this and the colours its made from. Its soft and goes great with a lot of outfits I currently seem to be wearing.

Best wishes,

Nicole
