Cult Beauty Haul

As you may or may not know, if you have an account with Cult Beauty, they will email you a 15% code to use during your birthday month. I, of course, wanted to take up this offer, and this is what I chose to buy. As with my previous post, this post is mainly just to show you what I’ve bought and I will do some detailed review and swatches posts in future when I’ve tested out the products. 🙂

I absolutely love trying new foundation and I’ve been eager to try Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation (£29.50). Unfortunately, the discount code does not apply to Charlotte Tilbury products (there is a selection of brands that Cult Beauty don’t allow discounts on) so I paid full price still, but for a high end foundation it’s not too badly priced. I found it very difficult to pick a shade and was deliberating for ages on which one to go for. I eventually went for Shade 3 and it’s not an awful match, but it’s not perfect either, I think one of the others may have been better but hey ho, I’ll make it work. I’ve used it a few times and I actually really like it! I’ll explain more in a more dedicated post.

Next, I’d been wanting to try a Zoeva eyeshadow palette for a long time. They have an amazing array of choice, but, trying to sensible I tried to think what I was lacking in terms of eyeshadow shades. I realised I had very few cool toned sort of shades, so I ended up going for the En Taupe Eyeshadow Palette (£18). It is such a gorgeous palette and I love the colours!

Lastly, I decided to go for a fancy hair product. I don’t very often invest in hair as I find makeup and skincare much more exciting, but Jen Atkin’s new brand ‘Ouai’ has been all over instagram and the blogosphere so I wanted to give a product a try! My hair is often pretty flat so I thought a texturising spray would be a good choice. I bought the Ouai Texturising Hair Spray (£22). It’s okay so far, but I’m not sure it’s going to live up to my expectations of its high price tag.

Ending Blogtober with a Beauty Haul!

I’ve made it to the end of October and have managed to get a post up every day bar three, which I’m very satisfied with! Having the time and ideas to blog about something everyday is quite a feat and respect to those who do it every day, all year long! If you’d like to catch up on all my Blogtober posts then you can do so here. 🙂

Anyway, onto the haul. I’d actually gotten through most of October with very minimal spending. I think I bought some things at the start of the month and then when it got into the last week of the month my addiction was kicking in and I needed some deliveries to my door. Beauty Bay released a discount code and I knew it was time. Here’s what I got.

beauty bay haul milani baked blush dolce pink foundation and concealer light beige mario badescu face mist zoeva wing liner brush makeup gerard cosmetics skinny dip hydramatte lipstick

I got one of the Milani Baked Blushes in Dolce Pink. These are so pretty! The gold packaging is cute and the pigmentation is insane. You have to be very careful not to put too much on, literally just a dab in the pan with a brush is enough.

After seeing so many positive reviews I also got a foundation from Milani – the Milani Conceal and Perfect 2 in 1 Foundation and Concealer. I’m always really wary of buying foundation online and despite obviously looking at swatches the shade I bought – 03 Light Beige – is not quite the right shade for me. The lighter shade 01 was not in stock so my options were limited. 03 Light Beige is just a little bit too dark for me and it’s slightly too yellow toned despite the description saying it was for “light skin with neutral undertones”. Notwithstanding the shade issues, the foundation does seem to give good coverage and last all day. I might buy some of The Body Shop’s shade adjusting drops to use with this and see if that improves the shade match. Has anyone tried them and if so, are they any good?

The only skincare item I bought was the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs and Rosewater. I love a good face spray but I don’t like spending a lot of money of them so this one seemed like a nice one to try out!

I also bought another Beauty Blender just so I’ve got one in stock for when my current one gets too manky. Another beauty tool I got was the ZOEVA Rose Golden Vol.2 317 Wing Liner Brush. I already have this brush but in the black and rose gold colour scheme and I love it; it’s such a good shape. I use that one for brow pomade but I wanted to get another one to use for eyeshadow and liner.

Lastly, I finally got a Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick after toying with buying one for so long. I went for the shade ‘Skinny Dip’ and it is gorgeous and I’m so glad I finally bought one! I’ve only worn it twice so far but so far I love the formula; it’s not drying at all and is creamy and pigmented with good lasting power. So pretty much everything you could want from a liquid lipstick. The packaging is cute also, gotta love anything in frosted glass.

That’s everything! Now Blogtober’s over I’ll be back to my usual routine and just posting as and when I can, but hopefully that’ll be at least once a week.

Makeup of the Evening – FOTD

This is a bit of a rushed post as I had nothing scheduled or planned for today, but I’d been doing so well so far managing to post every day in October I didn’t want to let a day slip by with no post.

So I thought seeing as I’m going out tonight I’d share what makeup I’m planning on wearing. It could change but this is what I’m planning on trying and hopefully it’ll look good! My partying and drinking every Saturday is behind me but tonight I am going for a meal with my two best girl-friends to celebrate their birthdays (which are a week apart). We’re going for an Indian so I’m looking forward to that!

Here’s what I’m planning on chucking on my face…

nars sheer glow foundation mont blank collection lasting perfection concealer fair nyx banana hd powder nars steven klein palette hourglass ambient lighting powder diffused lightanastasia beverly hills illuminator so hollywood nars steven klein face palette collection lasting perfection concealer fairnars sheer glow mont blanc becca backlight priming filter hourglass ambient lighting powder diffused light nyx hd banana too faced primed and poreless primernyx brow pomade make up geek creme brulee eyeshadow the balm mad lash by terry ombre blackstar misty rock soap glory eye liner supercat lily lolo urban decay primer potionnars semi matte lipstick scarlett empressnars semi matte lipstick scarlett empress swatch

For my face I’m going to use Becca Backlight Priming Filter (£32) all over face and then some Too Faced Primed and Poreless Primer (£24) on my nose and apples of my cheeks, as this is where my pores are largest and most noticeable. For foundation I’m going with Nars Sheer Glow (£31) which I have in the shade ‘Mont Blanc’. My favourite concealer is still Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer (£4.19) in the shade ‘Fair’ so I’m going to use that under my eyes and on any redness that’s still peaking through. I’ll then set my under eye area with the NYX HD Finishing Powder (£8) in the shade ‘Banana’ which is brightening. I’ll then set the rest of my face with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (£40) which I have in the shade ‘Diffused Light’ (this is virtually empty now, can’t bring myself to repurchase it with that insane price tag)!

To add some colour and life back to my skin I’ll use the Nars One Shocking Moment Cheek Studio Palette (this was a limited edition palette). It has the  Laguna (£28) bronzer and a great shade for contour. My favourite blush is the palest pink one so I’ll probably go for that one. For highlight I think I might go with this one called ‘So Hollywood’ from Anastasia Beverly Hills. This too was unfortunately limited edition and I can’t find it anywhere linked online, sorry!

For eyes I’ll go in with the Urban Decay Primer Potion (£16) and curl my lashes with these cute eyelash curlers from Primark. To line my upper and lower water line I use the Lily Lolo Eyeliner Pencil (£6.99) in black. I don’t like faffing around with eye shadow so I think I might go for my fanciest eye shadow stick which is By Terry Ombre Blackstar (£29) in ‘Misty Rock’. I’ll then probably just define my crease with Makeup Geek Eyeshadow (£5.50) in ‘Creme Brulee’ which I always do as it looks so pretty and defines the eyes beautifully. For mascara I am absolutely loving theBalm Mad Lash Mascara (£15) which I wrote a whole post about which you can read here if you would like! I might add some falsies but we’ll see how I am for time! Got so much to do… paint nails, straighten hair, do makeup, choose outfit! And I can never be without some eyeliner, so I’ll just line my upper lash line with some Soap and Glory Supercat (£6).

For eyebrows I absolutely love NYX Brow Pomade (£5.50) which I use in ‘Brunette’. This stuff is awesome and can still look really natural or you can go bolder. Great stuff.

I’m still very unsure on which lip colour to rock, but I’ve yet to don a dark, berry lip shade this Autumn (how criminal of me) so I am considering going for the Nars Semi-Matte Lipstick (£20) in ‘Scarlett Empress’. But, let’s be honest, no lipstick is going to last the course of me eating an Indian meal anyway so a top up will be essential!

So that’s my current thinking for tonight’s makeup… What do you think? I hope you enjoy your Saturday night whatever you’re doing.

 Nars Sheer Glow Foundation

I finally bit the bullet and ordered this foundation online as it seems to be everyone’s favourite foundation. I got the shade Mont Blanc and it’s probably the best match I’ve ever had with a foundation which is partly why I love it so much. It’s a fairly runny consistency with a medium coverage; it’s not enough to completely hide some of the marks on my cheeks but if I’m that bothered I can just add concealer, otherwise what’s wrong with showing a bit of imperfection anyway. It’s probably only me that notices it! I would rather it came with a pump, I may have to buy one separately to add to it, but overall I completely agree with people’s positive reviews of this foundation. If you buy it online at various sites you can often get a 10-20% discount which makes it less of a splurge.

Alpha H Liquid Gold

Another splurge item, I hate that I like this so much as it’s fairly pricey. However I do credit it, along with other chemical exfoliating products, with clearing up my skin. It’s lasted a fair amount of time, I got it mid August and it’ll probably last me until the end of the year if I use it a couple of times a week. Initially I was using this every other evening after cleansing and it worked its magic. Results were not immediate but give it a chance and it really does improve the texture of your skin. I think once I’ve finished it I’ll see how my skin reacts, if it seems to miss it and go back to being spotty and bumpy then of course I will repurchase. I still use Nip+Fab glycolic pads everyday so they should hopefully help maintain my skin without needing to repurchase. Its one I know I can come back to in future though! I love it.

No7 Beautiful Skin Melting Gel Cleanser

I only recently got this cleanser as I had a £5 off No7 skincare and wanted to spend it. But oh my gosh I love it! It’s so cool, it comes out as a gel which you rub all over your skin, then it transforms into more of an oil which you can then wash off. I end up massaging it over my face for ages as it feels so great and luxurious! The formula definitely feels and smells of luxury, well worth the £4.50 it cost with the voucher. No7 is always overlooked but they have some fantastic products and this is one of them. I use it as a second/morning cleanse after removing the majority of makeup with micellar water.

Batiste Texture Me Texturising Spray

I’d never used a texturising spray before this, which was odd really as my hair is always so flat and lacking body. I used to just use dry shampoo on my hair the day after washing it when its all fluffy and too clean, but this is a much better substitute for that as it seems lighter. I just spray this all over my hair when its a bit flat and give it a rub to give it some shape. It’s nothing miraculous but I feel it does make a difference and I like having it there if I’m having a bad hair day. It smells great too!

ASOS Denim Patchwork A-Line Mini Skirt – £28

The first of my fashion favourites lately, I love this skirt! I literally wore it  4 days this week, anytime I needed to leave the house I wanted to wear this, which doesn’t often happen. It was good though as I usually don’t have a clue what I want to wear each day and I take so much time to decide, before just throwing on jeans and a striped tee. This with black tights and any grey or white tee/cropped jumper with ankle boots, chuck on a coat and scarf and it’s a winter go-to.

River Island Beige Stripe Print Scarf – £18

This scarf is a stunner, if that’s not a weird thing to call a scarf… I ordered it when River Island had 25% off, initially as a Christmas gift for my mum, however when it arrived I tried it on and I’m sorry but there was no way my mum was getting it after that. The River Island website shows it much better, it has lots of different patterns to it and I love this and the colours its made from. Its soft and goes great with a lot of outfits I currently seem to be wearing.

Best wishes,

Nicole
